  • This partnership was established to meet the sports, social, and recreational needs of the growing communities in South Galway and North Clare. Our towns and villages are expanding, and our populations are thriving. However, we lack the facilities necessary to support this growth. We have sports clubs without permanent homes or adequate facilities, a thriving business community without access to digital hubs, teenagers and an older generation with limited options for social and recreational activities. Teenagers also have few places to gather.

  • The communities of South Galway and North Clare are home to thriving sports cultures. However, many of our key sports lack proper facilities or permanent homes. We have talented rugby players, soccer players, athletes, swimmers and many more, who don't have access to adequate resources. Our partnership aims to provide permanent homes for established clubs within the community. We want the facilities to reflect the talent and ambition of our people, with grass and all-weather pitches, running and walking tracks, and a multi-purpose hall. Our goal is to promote health and well-being for all age groups in our regions.

  • One of our key objectives is to strengthen community bonds by creating a shared, intergenerational space that caters to the needs of both older adults and teenagers. Our facility will be an alcohol-free environment for those who wish to socialize and gather without the presence of alcohol. We aim to provide a welcoming space for all LGBTQ+ individuals and groups. Our goal is to support everyone in our community and address the needs of future generations as our towns and villages continue to grow.

The South Galway North Clare (SGNC) Community Partnership proposes an ambitious plan to establish a state-of-the-art Community Sports and Recreational Complex. The facility aims to address the region’s urgent need for inclusive, multi-purpose community and sports facilities while fostering social, economic, and health benefits.

Objectives:

  • Promote inclusivity and health-conscious values.
  • Strengthen community bonds through shared activities.
  • Address under-served demographics, particularly teenagers and older adults.
  • Encourage economic growth through local events and job creation.
